This poses significant challenges for C&I leaders looking to increase the efficacy of education in their schools and districts. But these challenges can also be seen as opportunities. C&I trends can be selectively utilized to achieve the end goals of improving student learning and preparing students to navigate the complexities of 21st century life.

Engendering curiosity through student choice can magnify students' investments in their education. Foundational to the other four Cs, curiosity about ideas, people, communication and the like leads to the continued development of numerous real-life skills.
Integrating technology into C&I design is a necessity in the age of digital innovation, especially when considering that the current K-12 student population consists mostly of digital natives. The numerous trends in technology usage in the classroom are constantly changing, but tend to be tools used to support additional trends or movements in education.
For instance, assistive technologies help educators address the unique learning needs of all students. Data-driven AI technologies such as assistive learning systems augment a teacher's ability to personalize and individualize student learning within the classroom. Digital communication software and interfaces can support the incorporation of collaborative classroom design and actually allow students to work with others across the globe.
Building on technology integration, C&I leaders are increasingly seeing a need to include digital literacy in K-12 curricula.
