What do you want students to learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?

I want students to strengthen their verbal and written communication. I hope they gain the tools and confidence to effectively deliver their message will help in the classroom, on the job and in everyday life.

I have one major goal for the Strategic Management course - for students to leave the course thinking differently about business than the day they began the course. Strategic thinking requires students to draw on the knowledge they have gained from all of their other coursework and to then explore how each of these areas intersect at the hub of a company. At this level, we explore how decision-making is nested within the various organizational units inside a company and how to make long-term decisions for a company when considering all stakeholders and constraints.

Why did you start teaching?

"One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child." - Carl Jung

I have educated both on-the-job and in a classroom, both children and adults, and I have had inspiring moments that reinforce my love of teaching. At my core, I believe positive, personal experiences catapult learning. I lead with a compassionate heart and hope to help learners connect what they know with the knowledge they are learning in their coursework.

What's the best advice that you have ever received?

Through my own degree programs, and roles as an instructor in the MBA program and a supervisor to a team of talented students, I have learned that there must be a balance of creativity and control.

What's the best advice you could give to online students?

You can do it. The work may seem insurmountable at times, but continue to take one step in front of the other — and ask for help when you need it.
