What do you want students to learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?

How to apply liquidity, profitability and leverage ratios to analyze the balance sheet and income statements. Development of critical thinking is the path to success; you will not always have clear and concise picture of how to approach a problem.

Why did you start teaching?

Students need to relate and apply academic theory to real world situations; my background from Wall Street to manufacturing provides a unique opportunity for students to take advantage of that vast knowledge.

What's the best advice that you have ever received?

Everything can be taken away except what you have learned.

What's the best advice you could give to online students?

Failure is not an option and mediocrity is not acceptable.

What qualities make someone particularly successful in business?

All endeavors worth achieving require time management and staying laser focused. Always allow sufficient time to complete the assignment; waiting until the last minute has undesirable outcomes.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in business face today?

Balancing work and quality of life. Over emphasis on either one has consequences.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students may not know about you.

When I finally decided to leave a very successful career on Wall Street, I interviewed with a bank president in my home town. It did not take long before the conversation turned to salary. When he found out my income was triple what he made, his reply was, "If I hire you, I won't have a job." I realized my only option for employment was to build my own business.
