What do you want students to learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?
To critically analyze and test nursing leadership theory; to apply leadership concepts in the clinical area.
Why did you start teaching?
To give back to the nursing profession and hopefully share my experiences and lessons learned with our newest talent.
What's the best advice that you have ever received?
Stay calm and carry on.
What's the best advice you could give to online students?
Develop a study system and structure with calendars and due dates to include minimum number of times/week to be in the course. Take advantage of all the course resources.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams
What qualities make someone particularly successful in nursing?
Compassion, empathy, perseverance, high energy, educational credentials and "can do" attitude.
What do you think is the biggest challenge that nurses face today?
Healthcare organizations have become very complex systems, requiring time and patience to navigate successfully; severe national nursing shortages.
