What do you want students to take away from your classes?

In my Management and Organizational Behavior course, my goal is for students to develop a deeper understanding of human behavior in organizations and the ability to apply theoretical concepts to real-world challenges. I also strive to equip students with critical thinking, effective communication and ethical decision-making skills while fostering emotional intelligence, adaptability and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Why did you start teaching?

I pursued a career in teaching because of the profound impact my own instructors had on my career and educational journey. They challenged my perspectives, introduced me to new perspectives and provided a supportive environment where I felt safe to ask questions and explore ideas. My goal is to create a similar environment for my students—an environment that inspires growth, builds confidence and equips students with universally valuable skills.

What's the best advice that you have ever received?

“Test, retest, and let the data speak.” This approach emphasizes reliability, validity and humility in research, ensuring conclusions are driven by evidence rather than personal biases or preconceived ideas.

What advice would you give to your future online students?

I encourage you to approach AI tools with integrity and critical thinking. AI can be a powerful and effective resource for learning and problem-solving, but it is essential to use AI tools ethically. This means leveraging AI to support your work—such as brainstorming, clarifying concepts or enhancing understanding—while ensuring the final product reflects your own effort and ideas. Do not neglect the critical thinking process. Always acknowledge when AI has contributed to your work and be mindful of its limitations to avoid spreading misinformation.

What is the value of a higher degree in the field in which you teach?

A PhD in Business Administration gives you the tools to understand and analyze organizational dynamics. It combines advanced knowledge of research methods, statistics and theory to explore complex questions about concepts within leadership, organizational behavior, organizational ethics and strategy. The value lies in integrating these elements—using theory to inform practice, applying data to solve real-world challenges and contributing new insights to the field. This degree also enhances your critical thinking, analytical skills and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

Like with most responses in life, “it depends…” This is highly individual and context-dependent. I think everyone should read a book that challenges their assumptions, inspires critical thinking and pushes them toward self-improvement.

I am also a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Florida with over a decade of experience in healthcare and social services.
