Brittany Rogers always intended to rise as a business leader. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she quickly decided to expand her business knowledge to perform more effectively and be considered for future promotions. Encouragement from her manager and her employer’s tuition reimbursement program gave Brittany the impetus to enroll in the online MBA program at University of West Florida.
“The entire cost of this MBA program fell within that [employer tuition reimbursement program] threshold,” said Brittany. “Another big factor was the waiving of the GMAT and the GRE requirement, because I get really intimidated by standardized tests.”
Choosing from military-friendly online colleges was a motivating factor for Brittany, as many members of her family are veterans. University of West Florida is among the top military-friendly colleges in Florida, according to both Military Times and U.S. News & World Report. UWF’s Military Veteran Resource Center is proud to accommodate active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families.
Brittany earned her bachelor’s degree online. She liked the flexibility and convenience, so it was a natural choice to return online for an AACSB-accredited MBA program. She took a one-semester break between finishing her bachelor’s and beginning her master’s and was able to finish her MBA in one year.
As a small business specialist at Alaka’ina, a company that specializes in the government contracting industry, Brittany was one of the few employees at her level to report directly to an executive vice president. Promotion eligibility typically requires three years of experience, but her manager made an exception for Brittany because of her MBA.
“As soon as I obtained my MBA, I got a really big promotion at work,” explained Brittany. She was promoted from small business specialist to manager of SBA compliance, which included a significant pay bump and increased responsibilities.
Professors Emphasize Collaboration and Communication Skills
“I have nothing but amazing things to say about the professors at the University of West Florida,” said Brittany. “All it takes is just reaching out to them. I never had an issue connecting with any of my professors.”
In addition to learning more about professional collaboration through group projects, Brittany also sharpened her written communication skills through in-depth critiques the professors noted within her papers. “You got feedback every week on the section you did and it was very detailed and reviewed by multiple professors,” she added. “They’re trying to set people up for the real world. You were set up to know how to write a paper moving forward in the MBA program and what was expected of you.”
Brittany highly recommends the MBA program at UWF. “[My MBA] is returning a huge investment on my life, not just financially, but from a standpoint of what I know now versus what I knew then. I never knew all the things that went into running a business or strategic ways to find solutions to problems and to find those solutions before they even become a problem.”
